The Garrett Heights school community and leadership have rallied around a shared vision to transform the school into the first neighborhood-zoned, public Montessori school in Baltimore City. After a first summer of training in 2016, Garrett Heights established two Montessori classrooms with plans to increase the number of classrooms each year as teachers could be trained and materials acquired. The Goldseker Foundation awarded a grant in December 2016 to continue the program design, in partnership with the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector. This second grant of $35,000 provided for further training and program design, as well as a parent-community liaison to manage communication with prospective parents about the transition.
