Baltimore City Teaching Residency (BCTR), one of TNTP’s teacher preparation programs, has trained more than 2,500 teachers to teach in high-need subject areas and schools in Baltimore City since 2002. In 2019, TNTP launched the Black Excellence Cohort, which is aimed at improving the retention of black teachers through providing need-based monetary stipends, professional development, and mentoring. This grant provided core operating support.
