Roland Park Country School’s application to Baltimore City Public Schools to open a charter public school was granted in May 2013. The school, Lillie May Carroll Jackson Charter School, is the first charter granted to an independent school in the nation. LMCJS is led by a thirteen-member board of directors, three of whom have been involved over the eight year development of the public private partnership. After investing significant time during these formative years on both the planning and opening of the school, they are poised to transition from a founding board to one that operates in a more governance-oriented role. This $26,000 Management Assistance Grant funded a consultant to assist with strategic planning.
