Thomas Jefferson Elementary Middle School is a PreK-8 school located in the Hunting Ridge neighborhood of West Baltimore, near the city-county line. The school is one of very few elementary schools in the Baltimore City Schools system that offers the International Baccalaureate Program, an academically rigorous curriculum with a focus on teaching students to think critically and independently. It is also an intensive learning site for the district’s Blueprint for Success focus on student wholeness, with support from the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). With a new leader in place and support from Live Baltimore’s Way to Stay initiative, Thomas Jefferson Elementary Middle School has the potential to be another school that helps keep families in Baltimore City. This grant provided funding for staff professional development and an after-school club for middle school girls.
