The mission of Urban Teachers is to improve educational and life outcomes of children in urban schools by preparing culturally competent, effective career teachers who accelerate student achievement and disrupt systems of racial and socioeconomic inequity. Since Urban Teachers launched in Baltimore in 2010, the program has welcomed over 450 residents committed to serving students in Baltimore City Schools. In 2019, Urban Teachers announced its Black Educators Initiative, which is focused on deepening the pipeline of black educators. This grant provided core operating support.
