Cecil Elementary school is a hidden gem located two blocks north of North Avenue, just east of Greenmount Avenue, in the East Baltimore Midway community. In December 2016, Cecil Elementary was awarded Maryland’s coveted EGATE (Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education) status. An initial Neighborhood-School Partnership grant from the Goldseker Foundation provided funds to create a free after-school for fourth and fifth graders. The school subsequently secured funding from the Maryland State Department of Education to double the size of the program and serve grades second through fifth through the 2020-2021 school year. This grant provided additional funds to expand the program to include first graders.
