In 2021, Clay Hill Public Charter School opened its doors in Southeast Baltimore to 183 K-3rd graders. The school is growing slowly each year and will serve 540 students in grades K-8 at full capacity in school year 2030. Because of its geographic location, Clay Hill has attracted a diverse population, with 74% of students identifying as Hispanic/Latino and 51% of its students classified as Multilingual Learners. Thanks to a keen focus on supporting multilingual learners and a community school model that addresses the holistic needs of the students and families, Clay Hill has had tremendous success with both academic and social-emotional performance metrics in its first three years of operation.
After Phases I and II of its building renovation, the school currently serves 293 students, grades K-5th. Now, Clay Hill is looking ahead to the final stage of building improvements that will allow them to grow to 8th grade and purchase the building from the church. These funds were awarded for a planning grant for this last phase, which will help Clay Hill pay for the design and project plan for the work.
